SIR DOUGLAS HAIG
Effingham | Surrey
The prominent site with historic pub was developed encompassing new retail offerings at a key village junction. In addition, new residential offerings - including ten new build family homes and apartments - extends overall the village street frontage and capacity in a fresh and contemporary interpretation of the local vernacular. Whilst forms and materials are familiar, by articulating brickwork and tiles in a contemporary manner, this allowed the new to be read against the more historic structures.
The intensification of, and high quality upgrade of the public realm associated to the development will ensure an overarching scheme commensurate with the character of the village. Overall, the scheme imagines for a long term and prosperous future; whilst being firmly rooted and influenced by the quality built environment.
