Paddocks, a new build home in Weybridge, was constructed for a product designer and their family. The creative design process between architect and client was energetic and, together, a comprehensive vision was imagined. 

Constructed in a grey brick with matching mortar, the visual mass is clean, monolithic and engaging; topped with a dark standing-seam zinc roof. The structure, exposed internally, is constructed with a smooth in-situ concrete frame which defines the overall tectonic quality of the building; allowing for a series of open plan spaces. Areas of shuttered concrete are contrasted by warm timber walls, bespoke joinery, carefully selected accent lighting and a striking feature blue steel stair. The client made joinery helps personalise and reinforce the character of the house.

Upon entering the voluminous entrance, the visitor is offered views through to the main rear living spaces, whilst a delicate folded metal stair leads up to a first floor gallery space above. A polished concrete floor links the entrance space to the main living spaces beyond. Here, a substantial concrete up-stand to the rear at ceiling level allows for an impressive unbroken sixteen metre full height opening to the garden beyond with pergola, outside kitchen area and vegetable planters.

At first floor, the gallery links to a central spine corridor providing borrowed views into the double height space. Timber doors offer access to four well proportioned bedrooms and a family bathroom. To the other end, the master bedroom faces over the rear garden and enjoys a private rear inset balcony. At the top of the building the roof space is utilised to provide a generous play space and a functional plant area.
