Refurbishment and reconfiguration of an existing 6,000sqft office building.
The clients initial brief was to refurbish their unique premises situated in a secluded triangular mews court in the heart of London's Kings Cross. The design proposal was split into two programs that sought to rationalise the clients existing operation and provide a truly flexible and efficient multi-tenant layout option, whilst delivering a high end boutique-office working environment.
The first element of the proposal aims to sympathetically upgrade the office facilities and provide much needed additional meeting space, whilst allowing the day to day business operation to continue. To enable the full potential of the narrow floor plan to be unlocked a playful canopy has been developed to enable an existing gallery space to be converted into 5 new meeting rooms, all overlooking the leafy courtyard.
The second element of the design sought to extend the canopy concept to throughout the mews space, strengthening the delightful and intriguing entrance sequence, improving the visitor experience and providing a multi purpose installation that addressed practical issues of storage and opportunities for new planting and relaxation. The selection of the copper finish to the canopy will allow its appearance to gradually change over time, reacting to how the occupants interface with it's changing functions along its length.
